Clicker training is a dog training method that works on the principle of positive reinforcement. The idea is that by using a clicker in conjunction with praise and rewards, your dog can be effectively trained to obey a number of commands. When beginning with the clicker dog training method call your dog and make a “click” sound with the clicker as soon as he comes. This must be immediately followed by giving your dog a treat.
This works to condition your dog to the fact that a reward will follow after the sound of a ‘click’. Once you are confident that your dog understands that a click means he will receive a treat, you can use the clicker to train your dog to obey commands.

For instance, if you desire to teach your dog to sit on command, use the clicker immediately after your dog falls to ground on your command. After the dog sits, you can then give him a treat. Once your dog consistently responds to the “sit” command your work is done and you can move on to using the clicker for other tasks, although it is a good idea to continue to reward your dog with treats when he sits on your command
Remember to be patient with your dog, and know that the clicker method is best done in sessions of 5 to 10 minutes. Clicker Training is meant to be a gentle way to train your dog, and is intended to positively reinforce behaviours that your dog naturally exhibits, and not to be used as a punishment.
